SteveC
Steve here, back to bring you another 7ftSample; this week, I’m breaking down a visceral track by $uicideboy$, Antarctica. The track’s subject matter pertains to the mental health struggles of both Ruby and $crim, who dealt with severe depression and drug abuse. While they paint a meek picture of the struggles of fitting into day-to-day life, the beat is eerie and ethereal, enveloped by dark pads, bass, and percussion that is classic to Ruby and $crim’s production.
Get the fuck away from me, I hate all of you, faithfully
This world was never made for me
Thankfully, I’m trained to see past all the lies, the ranks, the scenes
I’ll shank my knees, then walk the plank and freeze

So what, why do we care, Steve? Well, because this song was released to critical acclaim but also controversy. The sample is of Deadmau5’s track I Remember, co-written by Kaskade. I love this track; say what you will about Deadmau5, but his releases never disappoint, and this track is no exception. I am a big fan of both producers and have been since I fell down the EDM rabbit hole in college.
Back to the boys, this track smacks you in the face as the intro slowly lulls you into a false sense of calm. As with most of the boys’ content, the lyrical content is dark; they don’t sugarcoat how they feel, and I have a lot of respect for their approach. They’re not afraid to acknowledge their struggles with mental health, a hugely impactful way to destigmatize mental health issues.
However, the boys did come under fire from the often outspoken Deadmau5. The artist alleged they utilized an “entire section” from the track without clearing it with Deadmau5 or his team. via genius
They were forced to remove the song from various social media channels but re-released it after working with the Deadmau5 and providing proper credit to the artist. Praise the lord, I was born to drive boat…
To continue to pile on how much I here is yet another version, which IMHO is the :goat:
Hold to the time that you know

You don’t have to move on to let go
Add to the memory you keep
Remember when you fall asleep
Short and sweet this week, I know the $uicideboy$ aren’t for everyone, but here at 7ft, we like to cover as much ground as we can.
