Erupting onto the scene, like the beginning of Jurassic Park, when they took the fucking blood from the mosquito with a dope needle…
The Sicilian Slice
The last one of the year, we hope you’ve enjoyed this weekly segment; it is our favorite.
What We’re Listening To This Week
Steve’s got these on repeat:
Reading Youtube Comments – Drug Church
Steve was fortunate to see these upstate NYers twice in 2022, once at the First Uni Church (fucks) and then again at TLA (also fucks). This track’s off Paul Walker, and it’s on brand for their pulverizing sound and melancholic lyricism.
Appel d’air – pâle regard
Recently rediscovered but very much loved, Steve first heard pâle regard’s track Reflets whilst watching mc bess illustrating on youtube. I would highly recommend checking out pâle regard, Mcbaise, the dead pirates, Kamggarn, or any of the other bands on Dirty Melody Records.
Punk Rock Princess – Something Corporate
A long trek back and forth between Philly and New England was laden with high school jams that included most of Andrew McMahon’s bands (or at least two of them.) Anyways, Steve will be your garage band king…
Gianca’s spinning:
Pulling Teeth – Metallica
Cliff burton was a wizard and one of the most insane bass players I’ve ever heard. He could make that bass sound like a lead guitar on a solo, and his playing styles were nothing like ever seen or heard. It’s showcased on this bass solo track here; check it out!
Border Line – King Krule
The track is uncomplicated, with a choppy guitar riff over some spartan bass lines and keys, but King Krule’s voice truly shines. His dark, baritone voice frees my mind and sends me on a sonic journey, soothing me from the inside out. Side note the beat switches on this track are immaculately clean.
From Time – Drake
As I’ve been vocal about my dislike for Drizzy, I cannot deny that some of his early work is masterful. This song, in particular, teaming up with Jhenè Aiko over such a simple instrumental, leads to one of my favorite tracks by him. Her vocals are angelic, and Drake’s bars are smooth, throwing me back to my high school days on Harris field.
SONG OF THE WEEK
Bleed The Freak – Alice In Chains
Another week, another AiC track, this being track number four off the masterpiece that is the 1990 album Facelift.
Bleed the Freak is Steve’s favorite track off this album, no question, unequivocally thebestone amongst a ripper of other tracks. He does not care for any dissenting opinions.
Gianca likes to note the harmonization between Layne and Jerry, which is truly GOAT’d, and howsabout that solo that Jer unleashes mid-way through… Face melted lifted
