The Sicilian Slice

What We’re Listening To This Week

Steve’s got these on repeat:

Limo Wreck – Soundgarden

Odd time signatures, swirling guitar riffs, and a thematic focus on the inevitability of everyone’s mortality…yea, definitely a Soundgarden track. Ninth track off my favorite album of all time, Superunknown. It’s sandwiched between two of the album’s heaviest hitters, Spoonman and The Day I Tried to Live, so most everyone has heard the tune, but take a second to really appreciate the lyrical content and funky time signature for yourself.

Map Change – Every Time I Die

Low Teens is an amalgamation of heavy hitting tunes, but Map Change is the be all end all of freight train coming through your speakers. Am I the only one that saw the sun burn out? A song that channels the in loathing and hopelessness of a winter in upstate NY with a breakdown that’ll shatter your teeth, it deserves all the respect its garnered.

Pawn Shop – Sublime

My favorite Sublime song from the self titled album. The opening guitar solo/riff is lush with harmonic squeals and palm muting that accent Bradley’s unique playing style. It’s so beautifully basic, straight forward, and effective over the underlying groove that the band puts down.

Gianca’s spinning:

Phantom Lord – Metallica

Such an underrated Metallica song. The riffs on this entire track are electric and make you want to run through a wall. The intro sounds…evil, like the phantom lord is approaching. The guitar solo sends me to space every time.

Mayor – Wiki

Manhattan’s very own WIKI is slept on wayyyy too much. His flow, delivery, and beat selection make him one of my favorite underground rappers. No Mountains in Manhattan is a phenomenal album; check it out.

Certainty – Big Thief

I love Big Thief; their music has helped me float through this past weekend.

SONG OF THE WEEK

505 – Arctic Monkeys

We’re going back to 505…
