The Sicilian Slice

What We’re Listening To This Week

After a long pause since last February, the Sicilians are back in action. Allow us to serve up a fresh platter of sonic delights—a little something for every mood, from crisp appetizers to hearty main courses and a sweet, lingering dessert of tracks.

Steve’s got these on repeat:

Down to the Waterline – Dire Straits

Mark Knopfler’s guitar tone on this track feels like a low burn under a twilight sky. The opening riff pulls you in, a smooth blend of precision and emotion, and the song unfolds like a hazy memory from a waterfront summer night. It’s classic Dire Straits—effortlessly cool and endlessly replayable.

Pale Shelter – Tears for Fears

This track encapsulates everything that made early Tears for Fears so compelling: dreamy synths, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith’s haunting harmonies, and an undercurrent of melancholy wrapped in an irresistible groove. It’s a bittersweet anthem that feels equally at home on a rainy day or a neon-lit dance floor.

Charismatic – Hailey Knox

Hailey Knox delivers a raw, intimate performance with Charismatic. Her vocals glide over a minimalist arrangement, each word dripping with vulnerability and confidence. There’s a bedroom pop charm here, but it’s elevated by her undeniable talent for storytelling through melody. It’s the kind of track you throw on when the world feels too loud.

Gianca’s spinning:

Roman Holiday – Fountaines D.C.

First song back with an Italianish title, we’re so back. Now if you haven’t heard of Fontaines DC, you’re missing out on one of the gems to come out of the UK alternative/indie scene. Roman holiday is one of my favorite songs off of their breakout album Skinty Fia. The vocals from Grian Chatten are hypnotizing, and guitar solos just make you feel as if you are floating away. A great winter song.

Elimination Chamber – Domo Genesis and The Alchemist

Absolute all star lineup here. Imagine not having this on streaming until 2023 (yeah that happened). This gem of an album fully alchemist produced back in 2012 is just so smooth. Sure Domo Genesis may have not had as much success as all the other Odd Future members but this album front to back is hot. The beat is smooth, the samples are clean and the features deliver. Vince staples was cold back then and still is to this day.

‘Bout It – JMSN

Reaching into my R&B bag recently. JMSN is truly one of the best artists for the genre in his generation. I went to see him in concert at the fillmore and it was just a magical experience. Phenomenal vocal range and swagger on every track. He’s your favorite artist’s favorite artist. ‘Bout it is just one of my favorite tracks from him and showcases everything he has in the bag.

SONG OF THE WEEK

The Chauffeur – Deftones

Deftones take on The Chauffeur feels like stepping into a shadowy, smoke-filled room where every note hangs heavy in the air. Chino Moreno’s vocals add an ethereal edge to the haunting synth-driven original, while the band’s signature atmospheric guitars create a deep, immersive texture. It’s a cover that honors the source material while carving out a distinct space in Deftones’ sonic universe.

We are so back…
