Erupting onto the scene, like the beginning of Jurassic Park, when they took the fucking blood from the mosquito with a dope needle…
The Sicilian Slice
What We’re Listening To This Week
This week’s Slice is all about grit—the kind that makes something rough around the edges even better. Like a corner slice that’s just a little burnt, or a track that hits harder because you can hear the hunger in it. There’s a certain energy in the air right now, the kind that comes from knowing you’ve put in the work and are ready for whatever comes next. Whether it’s raw, hypnotic, or straight-up electric, every track in this set carries that spirit. Let’s dig in.
Steve’s got these on repeat:
Calling After Me – Wallows
Wallows have a way of making nostalgia feel fresh, and Calling After Me is no exception. The track leans into breezy indie rock with a subtle urgency beneath the surface—like a fleeting moment you don’t want to let go of. The guitars shimmer, the vocals feel effortlessly cool, and there’s a looseness to it that makes it perfect for aimless drives or late-night overthinking. It’s easygoing but hits just enough to leave a mark.
No Rain – Blind Melon
Few songs capture the feeling of pure, unfiltered ’90s alt-rock joy like No Rain. It’s warm, a little whimsical, and carries that signature slacker optimism—like staring out a window on a lazy afternoon, wondering if you should do something productive or just let the day float by. The jangly guitars and Shannon Hoon’s unmistakable voice make it feel like a time capsule from an era where everything felt a little simpler. A forever classic.
Car Sick – Dayshell
Melodic, heavy, and packed with emotion, Car Sick feels like a punch to the gut in the best way. The track leans into post-hardcore intensity, with soaring vocals that ride waves of crushing instrumentals. There’s a restless energy here—like being stuck in motion but feeling nowhere close to where you need to be. It’s aggressive, hypnotic, and the kind of song that demands to be played loud.
Gianca’s spinning:
I Been – Alchemist, Larry June, 2 Chainz
The most unlikely lifestyle rap album is finally here and it is just sooooo smooth. Alchemist is one of the best producers in the game, Larry June and 2 Chainz just be flowing over these beats. This track just is filled with the classic 2 chainz fun one liners and Larry matches the energy in his classic monotone delivery. I Been is just so buttery smooth with the string samples and horns. Perfect victory lap song.
Wake Me Up – The Weeknd ft Justic
For all the synth loving individuals out there this entire weeknd album was cooked up just for you. Just such an 80s synth vibe on this track collabed with one of the greatest duo electronic groups to ever do it. Justice really brings a fun electronic vibe to the table and the Weeknd’s voice just does the rest. The breakdown at the end of the song is one of the highlights on the entire album for me. WAKE ME UP. COME FIND ME.
Faneto – Chief Keef
Only one Chief I’m rooting for today and its Chief Keef. I usually forget how hard this song is until it randomly appears on my spotify. Legit is just the hardest Chief Keef song to ever be created. It will make you feel like you can achieve anything, and make you remember every year NJ is still on the map chief keef has spared them. Just a really fun, raw song from early chief keef. Listen to this and pray on the chiefs downfall today
